The 2012 Grand Slam series got off to a great start Saturday, May 19, at Crestwood Baptist Church.
Nearly 200 runners completed the 5k race and participated in the 1-mile walk. With weather in the mid-60s, it was a humid but pleasant day for a race. Participants enjoyed refreshments and jokes by race director Mark Brockman as they waited for results.
Participants also lined the last part of the course, cheering Jim Wilhite on as he completed the race on crutches. The 61-year-old New Albany, Ind., resident is a lower-leg amputee who plans to complete all four races. Brockman always says, “You can do it!” Wilhite showed participants that if he can, they can too.
The next race is July 20, the YMCA Oldham County Days Festival 5k. Join us for this fun night race!
